The Week Ahead - Key Events and Focus

Earnings Season is in full swing next week and will largely dominate the news.  During the upcoming week, 158 S&P 500 companies (including 10 Dow 30 components) are scheduled to report results for the third quarter.  Earnings include but are not limited to (HAL, LII, KMB, AMTD, BIIB, CAT, MCD, COF, EW, TXN, BA, GD, ITW, AMD, F, MSFT, ORLY, CMCSA, SHW, TROW, TWTR, UNP, SYK, GOOGL, CMG, INTC, CHTR, PSX, ROP).  Verizon on Tuesday which could have some data points for Apple's new iPhone launch.  Microsoft on Wednesday afternoon should post another good report and Thursday afternoon Amazon, Alphabet, and Intel will all report with large market cap weight implications.  There will also be planes, trains, and automobiles reporting the week with Ford, VW, Daimler, Lockheed Martin, Canada National Railroad, Harley Davidson, Caterpillar, and Boeing (largest Dow weight fyi).  In Europe, this is a busy week too with the largest financials reporting. Expectations are surprisingly high for European financials despite the YTD weakness.

On the Economic front the week will start of relatively slow. In the U.S. we will see Chicago Fed, on Monday, PMI and Home data on Wednesday, and GDP on Friday, The GDP report may show last quarter growth slowed to an annualized 3.4% from 4.2% which will still have the December Fed rate hike in play.  Abroad we will see PMI in Germany and Euro-zone, and on Friday we will get ECB rate meeting where Mario Draghi will have a cautious tone but will unlikely won't make changes with tapering plan.  in the UK Theresa May likely will give up the Irish border stipulation to move Brexit forward.

Last week S&P bullish sentiment ended the week at 13% after bouncing from 11% to 26%.  It's probable the low sentiment can stay around for a while as seen in 2015/2016 period.  FYI:  I'll be back on the desk on Monday, but will only be publishing the Daily Note.

Site news:  I'm happy to report we are getting closer to launching our new site.  We have made some significant upgrades as well everything will be web based which means we'll have trade ideas, notes and data out a lot earlier in the day on the site so you won't have to wait for everything on one large note.  We are adding 5 more markets to bring our sentiment charts to 45 markets. Germany, France, UK equity markets most notable. The new charts look really great and now are dynamic where the user can see both the price of the market and the sentiment together as well easily can change time period going back to 2000.  Trade Ideas and DeMark Screens will also go through a major change in format too.   Big thanks to everyone who gave us excellent feedback.  Your support has helped us invest more in building out the Hedge Fund Telemetry platform.  Thank you
