The Week Ahead - Key Events and Focus


After last week's change of character, the week ahead will be watched by more than just market participants.  Sentiment has moved from extreme overbought levels to now extreme oversold levels.  Extremes with momentum have also gone wire to wire on shorter term daily charts.  Something most people haven't focused on is how this move has woken up the longer term overbought momentum off highs too.  I've spent the weekend going over hundreds of charts examining the implications going forward.  The Daily Note all week will be jam packed with charts. 

This week ahead will have a continued lighter number of earnings reports and the important economic reports will focus on inflation data.  Most watched will be the U.S. CPI data and a second look at Euro-zone Q4 GDP and IP data out on Wednesday. U.S. PPI for Jan and IP as well as Euro-Zone trade balance on Thursday and U.S. housing and Michigan Consumer sentiment on Friday.  There are three conferences that could make some news:  Credit Suisse Energy, Goldman Tech and Internet, and Leerink Health Care.
