Triskaidekaphobia

13.  The fear of 13! Some people are terrified of 13's.  They won't get married on the 13th, buildings skip the 13th floor, and horror movies were named after the date.  I have to say I love 13's as it's the number Tom DeMark found through his research was the end of a trend either on the upside or downside.  There's a little Fibonacci element in there too.  What people don't realize is tomorrow April 14th has been a more ominous date in history.  A few notable things that happened include Abraham Lincoln assassination, Titanic hitting an iceberg, Texas and Oklahoma hit with the worst dust storm ever, first group of Jewish citizens arrive at Auschwitz, 24 bombs go off across Northern Ireland, NATO accidentally bombs a convoy of civilians in Serbia, and Elon Musk deletes his Twitter after tweeting out Telsa will be profitable in the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2018. (I added the last one as that one might come back and bite him one day)

And with all the current events in Syria, China, and Mueller my advice to President Trump is to take a day off of Twitter tomorrow.  Please go play golf.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Thanks for your continued support.

Notable:

  • US Markets - Sentiment lifted yesterday
  • Hedge Fund Telemetry Trade Ideas  - Added JPM and XLF short
  • European Market - German DAX is typical of what Europe looks like now.  Still waiting
  • Brazil Update - Still looks lower
  • Currencies - USD and GBP.  USD stuck in a range while the GBP could have a defined top next week
  • Asian Markets - Shanghai downside exhaustion today
  • Financials Update - Earnings starting and stocks dropping.  Too high of expectations?
  • Boeing Update - Stalled and could move lower
  • Crude and Natural Gas Update - Still like Natural Gas more than Crude.  Crude starting to see upside exhaustion signals combined with elevated sentiment
  • Silver and Gold Update - I like silver more with the price action while sentiment is very divergent
  • Bond Update
  • DeMark Screens - Daily, Weekly, Monthly upside/downside exhaustion signals within the S&P 1500 and Euro Stoxx 600  (US monthly exhaustion signals finally updated for S&P 1500)

US Markets

SPX bullish sentiment increased to 37% from 27%
Here's a link to the Hedge Fund Telemetry market sentiment page with 40 charts of sentiment including equities, bonds, commodities, and commodities updated each day.

SPY stalled today after nearing the down slopping 50 day moving average

Nasdaq bullish sentiment increased to 42% from 30%

QQQ is also stalling below the 50 day.  I continued to believe a series of lower highs and lower lows is ahead

The Dow stalled too.

Hedge Fund Telemetry Trade Ideas

On today's Trade Ideas list I added earlier JPM and XLF on the short side.  I have to admit my fills were terrible partly due to how I VWAP into the names which take a little time to average in AND that these are now down a lot more which I didn't expect.  Regardless I still like these on the short side as they are still actionable.  We are working on a method of distributing these ideas in real time and when we have it set up, you will be the first to know.

European Markets

DAX is as good an example of any European index.  There has been some improvement in a basing pattern.  Let's see if this can hold or make a shallow consolidation

Brazil Update

Brazil ETF EWZ has some support at 42 with a downside Wave 3 price objective of 39.17.

Currencies

US Dollar bullish sentiment is at 39% and remains in a show me state.  A strong move above 50% is needed

DXY US Dollar Index is on day 9 of 13 with its upside Countdown.  This range is quite narrow as are many major crosses and that's interesting since there is a lot of volatility in equities.  Something will give soon.

British Pound Sterling bullish sentiment is at 78% and approaching the extreme zone again

The current daily of the GBP is on day 11 of 13 with its upside Countdown

This is one of my favorite "pin on the fridge" DeMark exhaustion signals on the day of Brexit

Asian Markets

Shanghai Composite Index did get the downside red Countdown 13 today.  It occurred in Wave 3 like many other indexes and stocks around the world and thus a lower high bounce is due and then lower into Wave 5

FXI China Hong Kong ETF is on day 12 of 13.

Financials Update

I've been eagerly anticipating the start of earnings season and it started big time today with some of the big Financials.  XLF has made a series of lower highs and there is now a Wave 5 downside price objective of 25.04.  The Wave 3 downside price objective didn't even come close so keep the price objective data in check with your expectations.  They are mechanically derived and serve as potential.

JPM earnings were decent on first blush yet has made a huge bearish engulfing bar today.  This is the gold standard for all the financials so it's not a good read going forward.  I added this to the Trade Ideas list on the short side today as it was dropping.  I still believe it's actionable

WFC reported and not surprisingly the stock is down as I mentioned yesterday, 85% of the last 15 quarters they trade down after the report.

Boeing Update

BA is the largest weight in the Dow (price weighted index) and stalled at the 50 day moving average.  There is a Wave 3 price objective under 300.

Crude and Natural Gas Update

Crude bullish sentiment is at 80% for the second day in a row.

Brent Crude has actually been a little better to watch than WTI and yesterday there was an upside red Countdown 13

USO Crude ETF also has an upside red Countdown 13 in play.

Natural Gas bullish sentiment is at 63% and remains oddly bid considering the price action hasn't been so great

Today the price of Natural Gas is spiking yet I really want to see a new high soon or else I may sell my long.  If you are looking to buy today, I still think it's actionable and I'll reiterate my stop at 2.60

Silver and Gold Update

Silver bullish sentiment is at 33% and down hard from 45%.  There is no love for silver yet I like the price action

Silver Futures had a recent downside red Countdown exhaustion 13.  It's back above the 50 day and has a decent breakout potential above 17.  I like Silver as a long with a 16.00 stop

Gold bullish sentiment is at 68% down from 80% the previous day.

There still is a downside red Countdown on Gold Futures yet it's holding today above the 50 day and is on day 5 of 9 with a green Setup.  It needs to continue higher and close above the previous 4 days close to achieve the green Setup 9.

Bonds

Bond bullish sentiment is at 43% and just can't seem to stay above 50%

2/10 Yield Spread remains on day 11 of 13.
